Human Associative Memory

Q. Write a brief note on HAM. (June 01)

Ans. HAM is one of the earliest computer models of memory. It was developed by John Anderson and Gordon Bower in 1973. This memory is organized as a network of propositional binary trees. Nodes in the tree are assigned unique numbers, while links are labeled with the following functions:

C: context for the tree

P: predicate

e: set membership

R: relation

F: a fact

S: subject

L: a location

T: time

O: object

Q. Using the same label links as those used in HAM, develop propositional trees for the following sentences:

  • In a park a hippie touched a debutante.
  • The children are playing in the park. (Dec. 99)
  • The birds were singing in the park. (Dec. 00)
  • Do not eat the fruit (Dec. 00)
